As social media has proven to be a substantial asset to personal brands, businesses and non-profits, people began to develop a “something is better than nothing” mentality when it came to developing a social media presence.

I disagree.

Sure, it would be a mistake to not have a social media presence at all, but most brands are past that hurdle. I believe that the biggest struggle is that brands lack direction and voice on social media, which stifles their goals.

Before we make content, I believe that it is more valuable to take a step back and develop a proper strategy, brand voice and content plan before getting tactical. The value of social media content is its effectiveness in helping brands achieve their goals, not social for the sake of social.
